On July 1, 2026, CMS launched the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, a temporary demonstration intended to expand access to certain GLP-1 medications for weight management for eligible people enrolled in Medicare Part D.

The headline: a $50 monthly copay for eligible beneficiaries

CMS says eligible beneficiaries may be able to receive certain participating GLP-1 medications for a predictable $50 monthly copay. The demonstration is scheduled to continue through December 31, 2027.

That does not mean every Medicare beneficiary or every Part D enrollee automatically qualifies. CMS specifically notes that not all beneficiaries are eligible, including some people who already have qualifying GLP-1 coverage through their existing Medicare prescription drug benefit.

Start with your doctor—not an advertisement

GLP-1 medications are prescription drugs. CMS advises beneficiaries to speak with their doctor about whether one of these medications is clinically appropriate and to use the official Medicare eligibility information to determine whether the Bridge may apply.

Official eligibility information: Use Medicare.gov’s GLP-1 Bridge information rather than relying on social-media advertisements or unsolicited calls that ask for your Medicare Number.

Why your Part D review still matters

The Bridge is a special demonstration and does not eliminate the need to review your broader prescription coverage. Your Part D plan still matters for your other medications, pharmacies, formularies and plan-specific costs.

When reviewing coverage, keep an updated medication list with the exact drug name, dosage, frequency and preferred pharmacy. Those details often have a larger impact on real-world prescription costs than the premium alone.
